This morning the BURN2 news is, BURN2 is being extended for a 2nd week. It will be open to the public but the entertainment has come to an end. The big event, the actual setting fire to the Burning Man is scheduled for next weekend.
The climax to BURN2, setting the Man ablaze has been postponed till Saturday, November 3rd, but times remain 4 a.m., Noon and 8 p.m. Also, on Sunday November 4th for the Temple. Times are all in SLT/PDT.
Fire is a big part of BURN2. On Wednesday night, I did something to lock in my Burner credentials, I joined The Lamplighters in their nightly ritual of lighting the lamps along the roadways and paths. I had no idea what to expect but very quickly I found myself wrapped up in the way of the Lamplighters.
The Lamplighters are part of the tradition of Burning Man. In real life, they are the folks who go quietly around the roads that weaver though the playa, lighting lamps as they go. The tradition includes special outfits and rituals. My thoughts were drawn back to the desert which gets cold at night and it was easy to imagine what a welcome sight the group was bringing light and fire to the evening.
Maybe it was the pounding drums and fire, but I found myself engrossed in the whole activity. If you are looking for something immersive at BURN2, I think you’ll find joining the Lamplighters at their camp and participating in their 7pm SLT nightly event.
More great Burn2 coverage Yordie! Yay! I’m actually away this Saturday, but I’m looking forward to your coverage of the big, Man Burning, finale!
Who doesn’t love a good bon fire!?
