The sad fate of Hosoi Ichiba has called our attention to the paradoxical ephemerality of digital creativity. In theory the work can survive where physical media cannot, yet the oftentimes fundamental dependence on specific platforms renders these works exceptionally vulnerable. In this new Conservation Portal on iRez we will explore ideas of conservation in the 21st century as we work toward solutions, perhaps including a “3D Internet Archive”
