ANGEL BEACH, 2009 — One day I had the sudden impulse to gather piles of finely ground bee pollen in the studio and cover myself in it.
It’s true!
THE HAGUE, 2012 — Aww, this image was made in the downstairs studio of an apartment that Senban Babii and I rented from Webby Merlin. It was a 2-story bamboo place. Apartment upstairs. Just open deck downstairs. Webby sold the place a while back, “Angel Beach” is now “Cyberstar” a futuristic dance club. Times change.
Anyway, besides the bee pollen, this is the project where I invented the now ubiquitous “Vitruvian Woman” or “T-Pose.” It wasn’t a big deal at the time, I just wanted a very simple yet elegant way to display myself covered in pollen. Like all my work that pose was Creative Commons Attribution, so technically nobody “ripped me off,” still, it’s surprising how ubiquitous it’s become. Michael Jordan, Ironyca, Leonardo, everybody seems to want a piece of my action!
