Felicia Day just pisses me off.

Just kidding.

Actually, we live in a world where:

AFRICA (and elsewhere)
Over 100 million girls and women have undergone female genital mutilation

MIDDLE EAST (and elsewhere)
Women must walk several feet behind men

NORTH AMERICA (and elsewhere)
After generations of struggle for equality women still make less than men, still are vastly underrepresented in high-level management and corporate boardrooms, still have almost no access to venture capital.

We live in a world where men have killed staggering numbers of animals and humans and driven every natural ecosystem to the brink of irrecoverable unsustainability.

Women are better managers, more fiscally responsible, offer more systemic perspective, offer more sustainable practices.

A generation or so ago American Indians (that’s, uh, Expats from the Subcontinent, not Native Americans) had essentially no access to venture capital. If you weren’t a white male who looked like John Doerr your phone calls didn’t get returned, you didn’t get funded. For a few decades now Indian-Americans have mentored each other, helped each other and reached success. Today an Indian-American entrepreneur has better access to venture capital than a white guy.

The same is not true for Women.

Did Rush Limbaugh singlehandedly destroy the word “feminist?”

How did a word that people of every gender should support become one that young women flee from? Are we so scared of appearing somehow weak or male-bashing or not team players, that we’re afraid to help each other?

So no.

The truth is that Felicia Day does not piss me off, she amazes me. She saw a lack of opportunity so she created opportunity. She felt disdain for gamers, so she created a web series that celebrates gamers. She understands the media of our age.

Felicia Day inspires me.

Felicia Day, just another amazing woman.

ELEVEN
• Felicia Day created the most amazing video I’ve seen in a long time. Her Bollywood celebration of Gamers is funny and compelling and reminds us that for the entire media age culture has been virtual. Our lives are anthropomorphic experiences. We project. We inhabit. RL is RP. It’s a musical, a comedy, and a powerful cultural insight.

Game On!

As a virtual public artist my work invites avatar communities to express their identity, explore their culture, and demand their civil rights.
