Remembering & Forgetting
In The Tree of Missing Avatars, Agnes Sharple helps us explore relationships made and lost in virtual space. In the physical world many people have the experience of spending more waking hours with coworkers than with family. Often a job change means the abrupt end of so many person-to-person connections. In a virtual world some people stay a long time, while other have “job” or “recreation” changes. Just as Facebook now makes it possible, for better or worse, to remember the people you no longer see, so too, your in-world “friends list” reminds you of people who don’t login anymore or who don’t travel in your circles anymore. Yet these names remain on our friends lists reminding us of the connections that once were.
The Tree of Missing Avatars
On Saturday 15 June from 2-5pm PDT (eg San Francisco Time, eg “SLT”) Agnes will lead a workshop at LEA11 / Alice in Cornelland to create our personal Tree of Missing Avatars. Agnes will provide beautiful sculpted trees. Instead of flowers, the trees contain 6 photo lockets. Your mission is to consider your friends list, pick the 6 you miss the most, and place their profile photos on your Tree.
If you can’t attend at the workshop hours, Agnes will also leave a self-guided box of materials and instructions you can “purchase” for L$0. You can rez at LEA11 with the VB Friends group tag.

In between music events, disconnects and crashes I attended a workshop “ The Tree of Missing Avatars ” hosted by my Bloggers Challenge group . Agnes Sharple provided all of us beautiful sculpted trees and instead of flowers, the trees contained 6 photo lockets. Our mission was to fill the lockets with avatars we miss in our SL. “In The Tree of Missing Avatars, Agnes Sharple helps us explore relationships made and lost in virtual space. In the physical world many people have the experience of spending more waking hours with coworkers than with family. Often an job change means the abrupt end of so many person-to-person connections. If you’d like to see the tree’s grab this TP .
Thanks Ira! Agnes really captured something special with these trees. We’re installed at LEA11 till 31 July so there’s over a month to still go VIEW the trees… or to MAKE your own tree!
Agnes has placed a box with materials and instructions there. To rez your tree at LEA11 just wear the VB Friends group tag:
