It’s no secret that I am a social media addict. I even have a whole page on my blog that talks about all the of the different social networks I am a part of and what I do on them. Yesterday was my four year anniversary on a network called Plurk. I think out of all the networks I’m a part of, I feel the most attached to plurk. I feel like it’s home and I can go to it to share any of my innermost thoughts just because I feel so comfortable with the people that I interact with there.
How you use social media can also be a very dangerous thing, especially if you share too much of yourself. You can make yourself vulnerable to many difficult situations if you’re not careful. I’ve kind of been there in the past and learned my lesson the hard way. I’m a lot more careful now, (most of the time anyways.)
Plurk is not the only network I use often. I also love twitter and facebook, each for their own reasons. What do you use social media for? Are there any networks that you are particularly attached to?
I totally agree. I just adore plurk itself and all my friends there. It keeps me connected and allows me to be myself. Pretty crazy considering I go there as Gracie…LOL
I don’t twitter much. It is too hard to keep up with the posts that go by. Too much info or too many friends or I don’t know. I would rather use Facebook and Plurk more than anything. Although I have gotten into Instagram and Pinterest lately.
I do need to find a balance though. That is the hardest part. I check my plurk and Facebook from my computer and my phone, ALL THE TIME…LOL
Especially with plurk, these people are my friends. I laugh so much with them. They are smart, witty and fabulous people who I have come to care for.
Thanks for sharing a great post!!
Oh I constantly check my plurk on my phone. LOL Twitter and plurk I actually do more often from my phone. Facebook I don’t like using on my phone, they need a better mobile app for Facebook.
And yes, my name is Gracie Kendal/Kristine Schomaker and I am a social media addict too!! YAY!!!
Social media addicts UNITE! LOL
I liked my experience on Plurk. I especially like Plurk more than Twitter, but I’ve fallen more and more into Facebook. I think it’s the pictures on Facebook that keeps me there. I’m signed up for G+ too but it’s mostly an afterthought for me. When I moved my blog from Blogger to WordPress, I found the whole Google thing much less effective than WordPress. In many ways, WordPress is a social network too.
And yes, all these social hubs are “dangerous… if you share too much about yourself”! I’m actually writing a post for the Avatars & Identity thread and that issue is one that plays large.
I have to admit, Facebook is probably my second favorite after plurk. I really enjoy the SL FB community. They are very loving and inviting and encouraging.
I used to be more into social networks than I am now.
Saying that, I just posted the reasons I like Pinterest! I like Facebook, I’d like to get more into Twitter and I hadn’t heard of Plurk before this post!
I would also agree that WordPress is very social. I see a lot of people commenting on the same blogs. It would make sense that the niche you blog in, whatever that is, would reflect on the social connections you wish to make.

For some reason I can’t seem to get into pinterest. I have an account and I do try and pin things here and there and I ooohhh and aaahhhh over other people’s pins but then I close it up and don’t think about it again for another month or so. lol I guess I need to follow the right people or something.
I haven’t really gotten into the wordpress community as much, I need to look into that.
