In the virtual world you can easily find women with breasts larger than Pamela Anderson, and men with biceps larger than Arnold Schwarzenegger. You can even find “average” humans…
In the virtual world you can have sex, get pregnant, give birth, be a tiny baby, be a child avatar, be a neko, a furry, a dragon, or the planet saturn. This names but a few of the instantiations you regularly encounter in these parts.
Some residents are creeped out by child avatars and some are chauvinistic toward furries, but if we aren’t always tolerant and inclusive, we truly are always diverse.

VB28 – The Seniors Project
Saturday, 18 June 2011
10am-noon SLT ♦ 5-7pm GMT ♦ 7-9pm CEST
Virtual Museum / Gallery Venue TBA
A self-selected cast of people will become that which so many of us spend so much of our time trying not to become: the natural progression of our being finite.
Every physical bench press at the gym is a hopeless battle with time
Every virtual skin purchase is a futile denial of entropy
In the physical world our choices have direct significance: few would wear an arctic parka in Truk Lagoon, and perhaps even fewer would don swimwear at Palmer Station. Free from the demands of climate and geography, free from the determinism of ethnicity or gender or orientation, in the virtual world we wear all of human culture as an aesthetic choice.
Plastic roses last forever… but nobody wants them.
“Real” roses have a ridiculously ephemeral nature. It is why, in the beauty of their brevity, we love them.
Today we take our dried roses down from the bookshelf and appreciate their sublime presence once more for the first time.
