Vaneeesa wrote the other day about the sad end to the Frank Lloyd Wright Virtual Museum:

IDK much about SL or RL org stuff, but it sure sounds to me like it was about money. I was Christmas shopping on Saturday and I saw a Frank Lloyd Wright Lego building for $85. EIGHTY FIVE DOLLARS! That’s not about “education,” that’s about money!

I think, just like you guys always say, it’s old media vs new media. Or not “media” but “orgs.” Watch, look at The Sierra Club and MoveOn.org. They’re both great organizations and I totally believe in both of them. I’m a member of the Sierra Club Canada, and if I lived in the USA I’d be a member of MoveOn. The Sierra Club was founded by fucking John Muir!!!

But

The Sierra Club is an “old org” – they have a huge paid staff and a huge fancy building. The Sierra Club has to totally fund-raise you up the butt just to cover their base costs, before they do any environmental “work.”

MoveOn doesn’t have a building.

When you give them a dollar it goes straight to making the world a better place. I hope the Sierra Club lives forever, but as time goes by, if you care about the world but you aren’t rich, the efficiency that “new orgs” have with your money is going to make it hard for old orgs to keep up, just like old media newspapers are having such a hard time with all their overhead today.

So IDK, but I just bet “old org” Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation was trying to cut “new org” Virtual Museums Inc off at the knees.

But in the long run I think VMI will do just fine.

And that brings me to Saturday and my first time as a Tiny!

The Frank Lloyd Wright Virtual Museum is gone, but “Virtual Museums Inc” recently got their non-profit status, and they’re transforming their SIM into the new VMI campus, and as their first event (I think) they had a tiny party on Saturday.

There was dancing and prizes and more lag than you can shake a stick at. *Giggles* My frame rate went down to 0.8! I guess it’s time for Aero to invest in a new computer over the holidays (I hope)

Anyways, VMI lives and I got to be Tiny! Supa funzies!!!

I grew up in Friday Harbor, WA, and went to school at UBC Vancouver where I received a BSN in 2003. Now I'm a nurse at Children & Women's Health Center of BC. I wish I could tell you I went clubbing every night after work, but those days are pretty much behind me. My boyfriend is a bit of a gamer, but I'm not fond of battles & killing stuff, so I rarely join him. Sometimes I play Second Life instead: it's fun to unleash my inner cheerleader! :)
